Natural Aids To Help You Sleep

If you have ever dealt with an inability to sleep – where you lie in bed for hours each night, tossing and turning – you surely understand how taxing this can be. And even though there are sleeping pills you can try that will help you fall asleep, these sleeping pills also mess with your body in other ways. Many people are unable to function the day after they take sleeping pills, as they wake up feeling depressed, groggy, and hungover. A better approach is to indulge in some natural sleep aids that will help you get your rest without putting all that negative stuff into your body.

Valerian is one of the most effective herbs for helping you sleep, and it is not addictive at all – unlike sleeping pills. And even though valerian is not for everyone, as some people find that it does not work for them, those for whom it does work will also find that valerian does not leave them feeling groggy in the morning. Also, valerian is no good if you need a quick fix, as you will need to take it for a couple weeks before it starts to work!

Another element that can be purchased at any pharmacy, and is great for aiding in sleep, is melatonin. Your body naturally produces melatonin on its own, but when you ingest melatonin, it will increase the amount that is in your body, thus increasing your body’s ability to sleep. Some people find that melatonin causes them to be drowsy, so make sure you test melatonin out on yourself on a night when you have nothing important the next day.

The most natural way to help yourself get better sleep – and probably the best way of all as well – is by relaxation techniques. Regardless of whether you want to try something simple to relax – such as stretching and drinking tea – or a more complex approach like taking up yoga and meditation, relaxing will help ease you into sleep. And of course, unlike with medicines and herbs, you run no risk at all of nasty side-effects!

If you have trouble sleeping, you may be tempted to get a prescription for sleeping pills; think twice before you go this route, however, and try these natural sleep aids first!

Swim To Stay Healthy

The variety of ways for you to stay healthy can seem endless; in fact, the variety of strange ways for you to stay healthy can seem endless! But one way that has stood the test of time (and which you will not feel silly doing) is swimming. Swimming is not only great for your body in a whole bunch of ways, but it is also just a fun way to exercise.

While the most optimal manner of swimming includes a scenario where you own your own pool, you are not excluded from swimming if you are without a pool of your own. There are a lot of places where you can swim, such as a gym or the YMCA. You can even swim year-round in these pools, because they are indoors. If you cannot find such a place nearby, you can also consider visiting a community pool. If you do not mind the crowds of such pools, they are definitely worth the effort to visit; some such pools require memberships, and others are absolutely free. Finally, you can usually avoid crowded waters by finding a lake or a slice of ocean to swim in. Not only will it feel nice to be out in the fresh air like this, but it will also be nice to swim in water that is not laden with chlorine.

The health benefits of swimming are various and even extreme. Swimming is truly a full-body workout. Swimming also keeps you from putting a bunch of strain on your joints and muscles, as it is a low-impact workout. Swimming even creates increased mobility, as it stretches out all of your muscles.

Finally, as far as aerobic workouts go, swimming is one of the best. You can help to keep your body healthy, and can even combat aging, as you keep your heart healthy and your circulatory system functioning properly.

There is certainly no miracle workout that keeps you thin and healthy and cures a multitude of illnesses. But if there is any workout that comes close to being this, swimming is definitely it! Now is as good a time as any to start adding swimming to your regular routine.

Tips For Preventing Carsickness

If you or one of your children have a tendency to get carsick, you know what a nuisance it can be. After all, getting carsick can turn a simple trip to school or to the store into a fiasco, and it can make a road trip practically impossible. Regardless of whether you encounter carsickness every once in a while or all the time, you can follow these tips to naturally chase carsickness away.

Fresh air: One of the best ways to make carsickness go away is to open the windows and get some air flowing in the car. With a bit of fresh air, you will probably find that the carsickness disappears quickly.

Focus faraway: If fresh air does not seem to help you, another method to try is focusing on a point that is far away from the car. Lots of people have a tendency to put down their head when they start to feel carsick, but this usually ends up making things a whole lot worse. By focusing on a faraway point – especially if you add this to the fresh air – will often make you feel a lot better than before.

Food therapy: Some foods will make you feel worse if you eat them while carsick, some will do nothing for you, and some will actually make you feel better. A few things that will help carsickness – just as they would an upset stomach – are water and saltine crackers, and ginger ale. Ginger root capsules and ginger snap cookies are two additional things that will help to cure a carsick stomach.

Cool cloth: Try putting a cool, damp cloth over your forehead and even over your eyes if none of these other options work. If you or someone you are traveling with is prone to carsickness, consider keeping a cooler in your car – filled with ice, and with a cloth nearby.

Carsickness can ruin a trip, but it does not have to; follow these tips, and chase carsickness away!
